General Presentation

Our two-days rock climbing workshop is designed for beginner to intermediate climbers; this is a great workshop for a budding outdoor climber or an avid gym climber looking to take their skills outside. Due to the small group sizes, the instructors are able to structure the course to meet the needs and goals of each individual climber, while placing a premium of safety and safe climbing practices. At the beginning of the workshop each participant will set its goals and will try to reach it in the course of the workshop.

The workshop is taking place in Val Pennavaire also known as Albenga, a silent and secluded valley between Liguria and Piemonte (Italy). With 1,300 routes and 41 crags, this is one of the most appreciated climbing locations in Italy. Close to the more famous Finale Ligure, the Val Pennavaire area has nothing to envy; on the contrary, a wilder atmosphere and a more mountainous landscape make the valley much more appreciated to those that enjoy climbing off-the beaten paths.

Workshop objectives

No matter what your level is, the goal of this workshop is to push yourself beyond your current limits: reaching the grade for which you are training, climbing the route that you are dreaming, defeating the fears of falling, mastering some difficult knots, learning new climbing techniques and so on.

Key learned skills

  • Learning balance and energy efficiency in rock climbing
  • Slab, crack, and vertical climbing techniques
  • Route visualisation: how it unfolds, and managing potential risks
  • Learning a variety of knots and use of climbing gear

Base camp

The basecamp will be Colletta di Castelbianco (or nearby). The place has many apartments varying from tiny 2-people rooms, to larger 6-person apartments. Virtually all have their own balcony with accompanying panoramic view. There is also a swimming pool but that is usually closed during the climbing season. Other accommodation is available in the area. For instance, you could stay cheaply in Albenga.
